Can I charge my battery in cold weather?

Use the charging temperature limits for your exact battery; they can differ from its discharge limits.

Check the battery manufacturer's specified charging temperature range before charging in cold weather. The permitted conditions depend on the battery chemistry and model, and may differ from the range allowed when using the battery to power appliances.

Use the battery temperature

The outside air temperature does not necessarily tell you the battery's internal temperature. A battery in a compartment may cool or warm at a different rate. If your system reports a battery temperature, use the manual to understand that reading and any related warning.

Some batteries have heating or low-temperature protection, but you should only rely on those features if they are documented for your exact model and installation. Do not bypass a protection message or assume that a feature is present because another battery has it.

If charging is paused

Record the status and temperature, then follow the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid improvised heating methods or changing settings to defeat a temperature limit. Ask your installer how the installation is intended to operate during winter travel or storage.

You can find available model information in technical documents. If you cannot identify the correct temperature limits, contact the team with the battery model before proceeding.
